Divided by a year (365 days), that's only about 4 pages a day, which is pretty doable! I have a simple way to make a study calendar:Īs I'm a very visual person (borderline r/Aphantasia), I made a mind-map of the book's structure to help me visualize the full scope of the contents:Īs I'm studying, I sketch out mind-maps on paper (or lately, iPad & digital pencil). Or like, this year I'm working my way through the 5th edition of the "UNIX and Linux System Administration Handbook": red sauce with meatballs & rigatoni pasta, or white sauce with frozen grilled chicken strips & penne pasta, etc.) Looks like a lot, but I can print it out & use my finger to follow the steps when making any of the infinite variations available: (ex. The core steps are the 3 yellow ones (prep, cook, mix), which then branches out into each sub-step. Here's one I did for making pasta in the Instant Pot. I use it for everything from project planning to recipes to studying! Some of the mind-mapped flowcharts can get a little complex visually, but if you're the one creating them from scratch & understand the core flow, they work great! I like it because it's quick & easy, and not only lets me save my thoughts on things, but add details over time as I grow ideas. However, it takes more time to hand-draw a map than it does for a dedicated mindmap program to help automate the process.

That is not unlike drawing them in Excalidraw. That means you can use your mouse or stylus to draw mindmaps in Excalidraw and relate information in ways you can't in a regular mindmap program. You might also Google the following: obsidian excalidraw mindmap. But Xmind has more available features than Transno. Transno's mindmap mode exposes a few features that you must pay to get in Xmind. I only use mindmaps for brainstorming so I don't have any input on using them for learning or storing information. Transno also lets you color and format words in outliner and mindmap mode. Xmind's outline is simply a bulleted list in nested form. The outliner, unlike in other minmap programs, is highly functional and similar to Workflowy or Dynalist. It does mindmaps and it can switch to outliner mode as needed.
